When the person who knows how it works isn't there, everyone feels it.
Four Bells turns what your best people know into training materials your new people can actually use — onboarding programs, workbooks, procedures, and guides, built from your operation instead of a template.
What we build
Materials that outlast the person who wrote them.
Every project is custom. No templates, no off-the-shelf packages — we work from your files, recordings, notes, and the people who know the job.
Onboarding programs
Multi-module curricula that get new hires productive in weeks instead of months — and keep every trainer teaching the same thing.
Procedures, policies & handbooks
Step-by-step SOPs, policy manuals, and employee handbooks for safety-critical and regulated work, written with the precision required in a nuclear plant.
Workbooks & job aids
Clear participant materials and quick-reference tools built from your real operation, not a generic industry example.
Facilitator guides
Everything a trainer needs to deliver a session consistently, whether or not they helped design it.
Online courses
Interactive, self-paced modules packaged for your LMS — SCORM-compatible, built from the same source material as your other training.
Training presentations
Updated, professional decks anyone on your team can present from — not just the person who made them.
Facilitation & PD
When you'd rather someone else ran the day, we deliver the session too — not just the materials behind it.
How it works
Nothing substantial starts until you approve the scope and price.
We figure out what you actually need
A free conversation about your goals and audience, a look at the materials you already have, and a written scope with deliverables, price, and timeline. Work begins only after you approve it.
You approve the structure before anything is written
Your content gets organized into a proposed outline or learning sequence, and you sign off on that first — so the finished draft is never a surprise.
You read it, we revise it
You send one consolidated set of feedback and we make the changes. Two rounds of revision are included in every project.
Final files, in the formats you use
Editable source files, PDFs, presentations, or files ready for your learning platform. Your source materials are then retained or securely deleted — your choice, in writing.
About
A studio built around one idea: the material has to work without you in the room.
Four Bells Learning Design builds training materials for organizations that need their people to actually know something at the end of it. Standard operating procedures. Onboarding programs. Course materials. Job aids that get used instead of filed.
Most training fails quietly. It gets written by the one person who understands the process, it makes sense to them, and it falls apart the moment they leave or someone new tries to follow it. Four Bells writes for the person who wasn't there — the new hire, the substitute, the crew on the next shift.
Every engagement starts with a written scope and a fixed price. You know what you're getting and what it costs before any work begins. Client material is held in confidence, and what gets built belongs to you.
Four bells marks the middle of a watch — the point where the crew is fully into the work.
Who's behind it
Andrew Castle
Six years as a U.S. Navy nuclear reactor operator, where a procedure that's unclear isn't an inconvenience — it's a hazard. Then twenty-five years in Kentucky public education, teaching science and later running a student IT apprenticeship program whose apprentices handled the technology for a thousand students and sixty staff in a one-to-one district.
Training students to run a help desk that adults depended on meant the documentation had to be genuinely clear — there was no one else to ask. That's the standard applied to every set of materials that leaves this studio.
Start with a conversation.
About an hour, no cost, no obligation. We'll talk through what you need, what you already have, and whether Four Bells is the right fit. You'll get a written scope and price before any work begins.
